In the recent years, gel nails have been a hit among many women. Although it has been around for years, only now its popularity seems to have a comeback. If you are interested to know more about gel nails, what it is all about and how about to get it, then this is the article for you.

Unlike French nails or acrylic nails, gel nail manicures have been said to last for at least two weeks to a month without damaging the nails. This itself has become a solid reason for many women to try it. There have been positive feedbacks from users who have tried this revolutionary method and seem to be coming back to their manicurist for more gel nail designs!

Gel Nails – The Story

So what are gel nails? Basically it is a hard gel like nail polish that is painted on the nails and then has to be exposed to ultraviolet light (UV) for a certain amount of time. This is so that the polish hardens on the nails giving it a natural and very glossy look. The gel nail polish has the same setting as normal polish. With its base coat, polish coat and finally the top coat. The only difference is, as each coat is put, it needs to be ‘cured’ or in other words places under a UV light device for a few minutes to be dried up before the next coating. And this is where it hardens. If you are interested to try gel nails for the first time, it is always best to go to a professional manicurist. They will guide you on what to expect when using gel nail designs on your fingers.

Benefits of Gel Nails

Unlike their counter parts in the nail fashion world, there are a lot of benefits of having gel nails. Unlike normal nail polish or acrylic nails, gel nails last long, they don’t fade or chip out when you go about doing work especially when it involves water or soap. And if maintained properly, it can go on lasting for a month, which slows down the natural process of nail growing. Plus, unlike acrylic nails, gel nail polish does not have any dangerous fumes that is harmful to the body. They are much safer to be used, even for pregnant women and it is very much environmental friendly.

With gel nails although the coating seems much, actually they are quite easy to handle. The gel nail polish helps to give more strength to nails especially in terms of protecting the enamel and its light on the fingers. Most importantly, gel nails make your nails and hands look natural. The glossy coating and harden features shows no fake in your hands and spurts out a very elegant and shiny look. The best part of gel nails are, you have more choices of colors and designs to choose from compared to acrylic nail designs and maintaining it is not much of a hassle.

Summary

A few things to consider before trying on gel nails. Although the benefits look quite exciting, there are cons of getting gel nails. The first one is defiantly the cost. Unlike acrylic nails, gel nails tend to cost more, because of its longer lasting finish. One manicure session can cost between 25$ to 100$ depending on the colors and designs you choose from.

The second set back is the exposure to the harmful UV lights that is needed to ‘cure’ the nails after its being painted. Talk to your manicurist to find out if there are any other options of ‘curing’ besides the UV lights. Today, with many people aware of the hazards that UV lights cause, some manicure parlors have optioned to light emitting diode (LED) which is less harmful.
